We’re supporting Breast Cancer Awareness week – and if you happen to meet any on of us today, you’ll find us wearing pink.

Wax-Communications

Our support is in aid of a serious issue, with on average 120 women being diagnosed in the UK every day with breast cancer.

We are holding a cake sale today to raise funds as a small way to demonstrate our support for the charities involved.

Wax Balls 2009On September 3rd, team Wax Balls literally went ‘Old Skool’ and headed off to Regents Park for an afternoon of fun, frolics and frivolity.

Despite gale force conditions, an impressive 25 competitors took to the start line.

Proceedings were kicked off by a rather half hearted warm up routine, spurred on by the 2 team captains, Anna for the yellows and Brydon for the blacks.

Once ‘warm’ both teams jumped, skipped, ran, and hopped their way through 6 retro races.  Some impressive performances to note were Phil ‘Ussain Bolt’ Pawsey, Brydon Gerus managing to run scarily fast in high heels (had he done that before??!), Sean ‘Wallaby’ Watkins and Gina ‘my boobs hurt’ Bolger.

The yellow team took an impressive lead winning the relay, 3-legged and sack race.

Not to be deterred, the black team made an astounding come back, winning the fancy dress, spinning and egg and (giant) spoon race!

The tug of war was the deciding game – and tensions were high.

The excitement was at fever pitch as Graham struggled to keep both teams in order before dropping the rope.

After a few almighty heaves, team yellow were victorious and held the impressive Wax Balls trophy aloft (many thanks to Sophie for making the trophy in her Dads garage- it was brilliant!)

A special mention also has to go to Chris Vincent who was wearing the only fancy dress outfit (even if the boys did pop out of the barracks a bit too often!), Graham Vernon Grace and his able helper Craig for some great umpiring and to the Wax Live team for organising the whole event and Brydon for his creative genius.

Obviously all that activity made us very thirsty, so we all popped off to the local for a few pints of beer.

Lovely.

Whilst digital natives are immersed in the digital space, digital immigrants are still coming to terms with opportunities (and also the technologies).

To this end, Mickey Rooney talks to Ben Stiller about Twitter.

Brilliant.

Brydon's Cultural CrumbsBack from a little R&R in the last frontier of Alaska I’m all ready to be back in the swing of London life.

The only thing I’m not so excited about is spending countless lunch hours in front of my screen eating a bowl of curly kale while daydreaming about the glory days of kickstand beer bongs in my days at Uni.

Well thank goodness I’ve found something to do at lunch where I can finally re-live those moments of excess!

Minus the drinking, fancy dress and snogging.

UCL’s Lunch hour lectures which, are just around the corner from us, start again on October 13th and run ’till December 10th.

Wax CommunicationsSo make sure you put the dates in your calendar and learn about everything from: the power of Lagerlöf to how the recent new offence of possessing extreme pornography has breached the principle of the right to obscene thoughts – totally what I was thinking about!

Admission is free! With the lectures starting at 1:15 - 1:55 at the Darwin Lecture Theatre, UCL, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT.

If you miss one you really wanted to see and just can’t get out of the office you can always watch it

online from 7 days after the event.

So get out there and expand your mind

Peace Out!
